‘On The Spot’ – Hugh Grant attends ‘The Pirates! Band of Misfits’ premiere in Sydney

The Australian premiere for ‘The Pirates! Band of Misfits‘ was held today, Sunday April 1st, 2012 at Event Cinemas George Street in Sydney.

The cinema was transformed into a full Pirate style environment, with tonels, coin bags, ropes, golden chocolate coins and a posters of the film everywhere in order to receive fans and the main guest of the night, British heartthrob Hugh Grant who voiced the main character of the animated film.

As usual loyal fans started to arrive early, some of them with cool signs with quotes from some of Grant’s films in order to grab his attention. Guests started to arrive around 3 pm with many kids even wearing pirates costumes in a very cute touch for a venue that was full of fans and media waiting for the arrival of the main start of the night, who made his entrance around 3:30 pm unleashing the joy af everyone around.

Hugh Grant was just great with everyone around, stopping for as much fans as possible alongside the carpet, signing autographs and doing pictures with everyone around, not rushing at all in order try to not disappoint any of his fans.

Mr. Grant, was also great and very charming with all the media around and obviously we had the chance to have a quick chat with him, where we asked about the animated film and also about the new Bridget Jones film Bridget Jones’s Baby, currently in pre-production. Check our interview below:

SR. Hi Hugh, is great to see you back in Australia. Can you tell us how was this transition from love-comedy films to a full stop motion animated movie like this one and how much of your own personality we will see on the character of the Pirate Captain?

Hugh Grant: “Well, a bit less than I normally do…I was there in front of a screen and you are just doing the voice, so you have an excuse to act like crazy and you certainly do that ha ha.”

SR. Any update regarding the new Bridget Jones movie?

Hugh Grant: “Well, they are trying just to get the script right, and when that is right I`m sure we will start working on it.”

After that, Mr. Grant did more quick interviews and posed at the media wall for the official pictures. However, he never stopped to meet and greet fans around the red carpet (us included), even recording a message on the phone of a very lucky fan just before go inside the cinema to introduce the film, in a flawless venue, that for sure will be remembered for all the Hugh Grant fans around.
