Lostprophets were formed in Pontypridd, South Wales, in 1997. With a line-up made of Ian Watkins (vocals), Jamie Oliver (keyboards, turntables, vocals), Stuart Richardson (bass), Mike Lewis (guitars), Lee Gaze (guitars) and Luke Johnson (drums) they are about to release Weapons’, their fourth release, following up their 2010 release The Betrayed.

Whilst there will be comparisons to Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park, Good Charlotte et al of the alternative metal domain, Lostprophets have managed to slice out a section of this genre for themselves – due in fact that the band has remained relatively intact sinced it formed, which has allowed them to meld their songwriting skills since their first album, The Fake Sound Of Progress.

The album starts with the fast paced Bring Em Down, the proud owner of some seriously fat riffs and keyboards screams and works well as a one-two punch with the second track Better Off Dead.

There are a couple of low points on the album though, Can’t Get Enough and Somedays sadly are the definition of average songs, and don’t really do the remaining tracks on the album any justice.

Overall the album is a strong return to form for this Welsh sextet, and tips its hat strongly to big anthemic chorsues, distored guitars delivered with much passion and swagger, that is definitely worth a listen!
