After some delays, alternative rock band Jane’s Addiction is back with their fourth studio album ‘The Great Escape Artist’, a new proposal that for sure will hit the Jane’s fans in very positive ways.
For this new album, Jane’s Addiction joined forces with producer Rich Costey (Muse, Franz Ferdinand, Interpol), with TV on the Radio’s Dave Sitek on the team. Sitek, best known for his production work on TV on the Radio, Yeah Yeah Yeahs and the Foals, is writing, programming, and playing bass on the album.
There was so much curiosity regarding the sound of this new title, after bass player Eric Avery left the band, an issue that does not seem to affect the marvelous work of Perry Farrell, Dave Navarro, and Stephen Perkins for ‘The Great Escape Artist’, because the album sounds great, with great lyrics, strong riffs, guitars swirls and great drumming. To top it all, it was complemented by the unique voice and style of Farrell.
A good example is Dave Navarro‘s amazing guitar, that sounds better than ever in the song “Splash A Little Water On It”, a mixed song that works as a ballad with lot of rock tones, where Navarro`s guitar works like an independent band member.
The 10 songs of the album bring lot of variety, even exploring new areas with some intro speech words from Perry Farrell in “Words Right out Of My Mouth” and some ballads like “Broken People”, showing so much confidence in the band playing together.
Overall, the album sounds completely different than the classics like “Jane Says”, but it is an excellent change, a new Janes that keeps their essence, with the band transferring energy to the listener, pushing their sound into new territory.
‘The Great Escape Artist’, might get some Jane’s Addiction fans out of guard, but after listening to the album, they will get into it and they will love it. For sure, it will be a good debate for fans which song is the best. Personally, we think, the battle will be between “End to the Lies” and “Irresistible Force”, the latter being the stickiest one, and perhaps the iconic single of this MUST HAVE album.
‘The Great Escape Artist’ is due for an Australian release on Friday, October 14.
