From singer/songwriter Yunyu comes the second single from the yet-to-be-released Twisted Tales project: Bluebeard.

Yunyu’s version of this tale is a dark and chilling rendition of the exploits of real life Bluebeards who use religion to justify their sexual abuse of women and children. Offering a musical lifeline to her characters, Yunyu uses SOS Morse code as a base for short, sharp verses repeated in a rhythmic sequence as the band keeps up with the multiple changes in time signature. Bluebeard is post-modern rock meeting with Kate Bush-esque vocals, and reaches a violent crescendo of electrifying guitar.

For the film clip, Yunyu and Bluebeard do celestial battle in Bluebeard’s palace. Bluebeard who rules the realm of sands and dreams has created a cruel reality Yunyu finds compelled to destroy. Check it out: the sand art is stunning!

After receiving rave reviews at the Brisbane Powerhouse, Yunyu brings her Twisted Tales tour to Revolver Upstairs, Melbourne (June 22) and Carriageworks, Sydney (June 30). A unique live show complete with her six piece band, a VJ called “Mr Goat” and a storybook of characters who are bursting to come out and play.
