Kill City Creeps – EP review

The Kill City Creeps are a 4 piece Sydney inner-west band that eat, breathe and sleep, swampy, dash and bash, psychedelia, fuzz, glam, vintage, surf and rock n roll! Their first 5 track demo mixed by Nic Dalton from the Lemonheads and comes wrapped in a hand made, paper CD cover – tres hip! These songs are stripped down, nothing is wasted on long solos or over-bearing intros.

Daniel Darling (lead vocals/rhythm guitar) formerly of The Dolly Rocker Movement, Knives (lead guitar/vocals), Mon Cherie (drums), both of Dora Maar and rounded off by rogue musician Nina B (organ) this irrepressible group give the impression that although the songs have musical flavours drawn from the likes of Iggy and the Stooges, The Cramps, early B52’s and also a hint of Australia’s own Sunnyboys.

The track I Got A Letter, opens the CD and gets cracking from the get go and is a ‘catchy as hell’ song, it’s a brilliant balance of calm and collected verses to raging choruses. Drivin Sideways is one boppy little track, with that classic surfing guitar sound, whilst La La Blues is a fave of mine.

It is no wonder Triple J’s Richard Kingsmill gave these guys a 5/5 in his appraisal, it’s a deserved rating.
