After almost a decade; the end of one of the most beloved film sagas is finally here. ‘HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS PART 2’ is the epic finale of the cinematic series, and we had the chance to watch it at the Sydney premiere.
This is our review of the movie, but remember, we still recommend for you to go and watch the film; because there is no better critic than yourself!
’Deathly Hallows Part 2’ starts exactly where Part 1 ended; with Ron Weasley (Rupert Grint), Hermione Granger (Emma Watson) and Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe) in hiding. They are being hunted as fugitives; while searching for the three remaining Horcruxes (which are important to the Dark Lord’s immortality). These are located in various places and the three young wizards must find and destroy them in order to defeat “you know who,” before he takes over everything – especially now that he has the elder wand: which is the most powerful wand ever made (as seen at the end of Part 1).
The film is entertaining even though it is much darker than the previous entries.
Fans will enjoy what they see on the screen, such as the comeback of almost every single character from the previous films (there are a lot of cameos around). Moreover, Part 2 has some outstanding performances (main and secondary characters have done a marvelous job). One of the highlights is Alan Rickman; who plays Professor Snape. He puts in such a fantastic approach to the character – becoming the heart of the plot.
We also give a special mention to Matthew Lewis (who plays Neville Longbottom); the young actor brings out the best of the character (with the mature approach everyone wanted to see at the end of this saga) – he becomes a true warrior during the battle for Hogwarts.
The musical score by Alexandre Desplat (The King’s Speech) is fantastic. It fulfills every single scene’s needed connotations – making the film complete. There are even a couple of sequences where Desplat uses John William’s original Harry Potter main theme (Hedwig’s theme) in such a way; that you hold your breath and take a nostalgia ride through all of the saga in just seconds.
‘Deathly Hallows Part 2’ is the film every die-hard Harry Potter fan expected. It has tons of action, epic battles (which even remind us of ‘Lord of The Rings’), it even has some deeply dramatic situations – where some heroes and villains fall – as well as some unexpected plot twists (at least for the ones who did not read the novels).
Every single scene in the film is carefully made; with a great job of art direction and photography – giving you exactly what you pictured in your mind (or at least very close to) from reading the books. Adding to this; the 3D experience made the film an even more spectacular journey from beginning to end.
It’s hard to believe that this saga has come to an end. One can’t help but feel nostalgic; bringing back memories of how every actor/character was when they first appeared in the ‘Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.’ It feels like you have grown up with them – that you’re part of the entire adventure.
After seeing the film we could finally understand why J.K Rowling, director David Yates and screenwriter Steve Kloves decided to divide the last novel into two parts. ‘The Deathly Hallows Part 1’ is only to set the mood for what will be the amazing climactic journey of the life of: The boy who lived.
That is why ‘Part 2’ is everything you were expecting and more. There’s action, drama, romance and even a bit of the classic Harry Potter comedy around – mostly courtesy of Ron.
‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2’ will be enjoyed by moviegoers of all ages. If you are a huge fan of the saga or even if you haven’t read the books: you won’t be disappointed. Get your magic wand and prepare your “Patronus charms,” take your broom and fly to your local cinema to see the end of the saga. It’s a definite must watch film!
‘Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows Part 2’ is out now. Only in cinemas.
It all ends…Expecto Patronum!
