Winnie the Pooh G
Stephen J. Anderson and Don Hall, 2011, USA, 63 mins, Source/Courtesy: Walt Disney Motion Pictures Australia
A.A. Milne’s lovable bear returns to the big screen for the first time in 35 years in this animated adventure inspired by five of the author’s most cherished stories. Christopher Robin is in danger and it’s up to Pooh, Rabbit, Piglet, Kanga, Roo and Eeyore to help their old friend get out of harm’s way. But when the whole gang comes running at Owl’s behest, they realise that someone’s imagination has gotten the best of them.
Narrated by John Cleese with a selection of jaunty tunes recorded by Zooey Deschanel.
“In a time of shock-value 3-D animation and special effects, the look of the film is gentle and pleasing. It was hand-animated, I’m told, and the backgrounds use a subtle and reassuring watercolor style. It’s a nightmare-proof experience for even the youngest viewers.” – Roger Ebert, The Chicago Sun-Times
Sun 15 Apr ,10.30am and 1pm
Mia and the Migoo Unclassified All Ages
Jacuqes-Remy Girerd, 2008, France, 92 mins, Source/Courtesy: GKIDS Inc., USA
Created from an astounding 500,000 hand-painted frames of animation, Mia and the Migoo is a work of art that is breathtaking to behold, with backgrounds invoking Van Gogh, Monet and Cezanne. It tells the fable-like story of a young girl who must overcome her fears on a quest to find her father and save the world from destruction.
With the voices of John Di Maggio, Whoopi Goldberg, Matthew Modine, Wallace Shawn and James Woods.
Australian premiere!
“Vibrant! Shimmering! You’d be forgiven for mistaking Mia and the Migoo for the latest effort from Hayao Miyazaki!” – LA Weekly
